Did they send the Stimulus Check to Rep Payee or Recipient?

The economic impact payments are treated differently because they come from the Treasury and not Social Security.  It’s up to the client if they want the rep payee to manage those funds.  If the rep payee receives the payment first, then they can encourage the client to let the rep payee manage the funds.  At the end of the day it’s up to the client.  Additionally, the rep payee is not responsible for tracking the money.  There’s additional guidance on Social Security’s website.

This can be detrimental to the Recipient if they have drug or alcohol abuse issues. I’ve known of a Recipient who flew to Europe only to be promptly deported. We want Rep Payees to know they should try to have a healthy conversation about healthy uses for these funds.
